When Dawn and Steven Brooks from Wakefield, decided they wanted to move to be closer to their son Richard’s place of supported employment, it was a stroke of luck that daughter Samantha had recently purchased a new Gleeson Home at Ellwood Park in Barnsley.
Samantha and her partner Robert purchased their first house together at Ellwood Park using the Gleeson Help to Buy scheme just months earlier and recommended the development to her parents. Dawn and Steven hadn’t considered a Gleeson Home but after visiting the site they found the house they were looking for. The location was ideal, only a 15 minute drive from Richard’s place of employment and a minutes’ walk away from their daughter.
Dawn and Steven had strict requirements for their new home in order to make life a little easier for their son Richard; the garden needed to be flat, a downstairs w.c was required and a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, including facilities for a disability were vital.
The family found the perfect plot and Gleeson re-designed the master bedroom under their Design for Disability scheme, to incorporate an en-suite bathroom.
Dawn said “Gleeson’s Design for Disability gave us flexibility to add an essential en-suite to Richard’s bedroom. Richard is thrilled with his new house and the privacy and ease his adapted en-suite provides. The fact that we found a house with a flat garden, down the road from my daughter and only a short drive away from Richard’s place of work is something we wouldn’t have imagined finding.”
Although the area is new to the family, Dawn is very much looking forward to the warmer weather so they can explore what’s on offer in the local community.
