Gleeson Apprentice wins the Guild of Bricklayers Regional Competition!

Alex Rioch began his journey at Gleeson Homes in October 2016 as an Apprentice Bricklayer at the Shieldrow Park development.  Over the last two years Alex has gained experience in the construction industry whilst developing his skills as a bricklayer.

Throughout the apprenticeship scheme Alex has been involved in all aspects of bricklaying as well as learning to read drawings and find solutions to the most common problems on site.

Alex commented “The apprenticeship scheme has helped me to develop my communication skills whilst learning my trade and understand the many benefits of working in the construction industry. “

Alex was placed first in the prestigious Guild of Bricklayers regional competition earlier this year and fourth in the national competition.  The Guild of Bricklayers was founded in 1932 with the aim of promoting and maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship in brickwork.

On completion of the apprenticeship scheme later this year Alex will continue to work in the squad he is working with currently at the Shieldrow Park development.
