Strong Council Support for New Homes on Former School Sites

Rochdale Council joined Gleeson Homes to view progress on their two developments in Rochdale which by completion will bring 143 new homes to the town as part of the council’s extensive regeneration plans.

Gleeson is due to start construction of new homes on the former Balderstone’s School site shortly with the first homes on the nearby Hill Top Park development, previously Hill Top School, already occupied and the show homes just opened to the public.  Both developments have proven extremely popular with local buyers with all homes sold off plan as soon as released for sale.

The Bury based housebuilder specialises in building traditional, freehold homes for private sale and, with monthly mortgage repayments on two bedroom homes starting from less £220 when purchased with Help to Buy, they offer local people a real alternative to renting.  So far over 90% of the homes sold in Rochdale are to first time buyers.

The council applauded Gleeson’s approach, showing their support not only for the new homes but also for the housebuilder’s Community Matters Programme which will help the local community through the creation of new jobs and apprenticeships, the sponsorship of local junior sports teams and working with school near each development.

After officially opening the show homes at Hill Top Park, Deputy Mayor, Cllr Zaman said, “It’s wonderful to finally see these vacant pieces of land transformed into new communities of new homes.  We are delighted that Gleeson are giving the hard working young people of Rochdale the opportunity to get into home ownership”.
